855E - the NS liveried co-co electric loco 1308 with later revised chassis

Although this locomotive was new in the 1965 catalogue, this is the version issued c1967 in the Playcraft range with a completely new 12-wheel drive chassis. The motor was mounted in the underframe housing between the shorter bogies and drove a layshaft which ran the length of the loco above the solebar to both bogies. The chassis was also fitted to the SNCF CC7107 model in the Playcraft range but doesn't seem to have been used in the Jouef range at all.

The bogies however were fitted to the models 8451 SNCF CC40108 and 8899 SNCB 1801 locomotives

Prototype information

Based on the 1100 class  these locos were built in France, in the 1950's. They were powerful locos, which were especially used for freight traffic. Originally painted in NS blue livery they were repainted in yellow and grey in the 1970's. They have now been withdrawn but loco 1302 has been preserved.

The class comprised 15 locos, although 16 locos were actually built. During the construction of the class, in 1953, loco No 1303 suffered a major accident and was not rebuilt instead many of its components were used in the construction of loco 1311.
