8361 (also 8582) - the SNCF bo-bo electric BB25110

Prototype information:

Designed and introduced along with the BB25200’s, which were developed from the prototype BB20005, the BB25100's were the first dual voltage locos and were introduced in the mid 1960's in the North-East of France where they were allocated to Chalindrey and Thionville depots. From the beginning they were limited to 130 km/h, like the class BB25200's, and they quickly took over the haulage of passenger trains in the area. Thereafter, they extended their sphere of activity to Brittany after the delivery of a new batch of machines to Rennes. Due to the increasing traffic in Savoy, thanks in particular to the development of the winter sports resorts, the final batch were delivered at the end of the 1970's and sent to Chambéry depot to haul freight and passenger trains. At the start, the locos with longitudinal shutters along with Nos BB25171 to 25175 received traditional green-bluish livery which was generally applied to all the Jacquemin machines. The only exceptions were the last examples of the class which had the green livery with white stripes similar to that of the BB9300’s. In the mid 1980's, the grey 'concrete' livery was generally introduced (BB25170 being the last to receive it in 1997) then, more recently, Multiservices and FRET liveries depending on the locos duties. Mainly confined to goods traffic, only the Chambéry-based locos are frequently used to haul passenger trains bound for the ski slopes of Bourg St Maurice, Evian or St Gervais. Relatively reliable, like their sisters, dual voltage and classified in the family of the BB9200’s and BB16000’s , their future is still assured for a few years on the French electrified network and this, in spite of the increase in the deliveries of modern dual voltage locos like the BB26000’s and 27000’s.

The locos are exclusive to Thionville and Chambéry depots.
